How we calculate

Excluding VAT: we add up the amounts per rate and apply the rate to the sum. Including VAT: we divide the total per rate by 1 plus the rate, so by 1.21 at 21%. The difference is the VAT.

VAT is rounded to whole cents per rate, over the sum of the lines. Rounding per line can differ by a cent.

Under the exemption scheme you charge no VAT to your customers and file no periodic VAT returns, but you cannot deduct VAT on your purchases either. Work on real estate and catering with a registered cash register are excluded.

This is an estimate. Which rate applies to your product or service, and whether you can use the exemption scheme, depends on your situation. Some supplies are exempt from VAT. This is not personal tax advice.
